Turmeric is a large-leaved perennial herb with yellow flowers. Also known as Indian saffron. Its homeland is South Asia. It grows in tropical regions of Asia, mainly Pakistan, India, China and Bangladesh. It has a bitter taste. It is also called Kırkambar.

Turmeric is used as a colorant in dyeing silk fabrics and fine leather, in henna. In the past, turmeric paper was also used instead of litmus paper. In order to be used as a spice, the plant must be cleaned and boiled and the dark yellow root stems must be ground. This spice is also used as a substitute for saffron. This spice is used in the famous Spanish paella dish and Indian curry sauce.

How to Drink Turmeric?

You can also consume turmeric as a tea.

  • Put half a teaspoon (about 3 grams) of finely chopped turmeric root or powder into the teapot.
  • Add 300-500 ml of boiling water to it.
  • Let it brew for 8-10 minutes.
  • Then strain and pour into your glass.
  • You can sweeten it with honey and drink it.
  • Apart from that, turmeric is also sold ready-made in the form of tea bags.
  • Another method for turmeric tea is to mix a teaspoon in a glass of water and boil it like Turkish coffee and then sweeten it with honey.

  2. Prolonged and excessive use may cause gastric mucosal irritation.
