The best zombie games 2022

What are the best zombie games on PC? You can’t step in without seeing a zombie game on Steam, so it’s a valid question. However, you have to be careful with your choices as there are a lot of garbage games. We’ve rounded up some of the best zombie games on PC.

It’s about humanity facing a common enemy, having to use basic survival skills, and discovering how effective a shotgun can be at close range. Maybe it was a description that fully met the term “the best zombie game”. The best zombie games reflect these nuances and are a lot of fun to play.

Scientists haven’t figured out what makes shooting zombies so fun, but there must be a reason why these survival games are so popular. From series like Resident Evil to Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, there’s more than enough to get you an adrenaline rush. Here are the best zombie games you can play right now.

resident Evil

No zombie game list would be complete without Resident Evil. Resident Evil is one of the best horror games on the market. Playing as Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine, you are trapped in the famous maze-filled Spencer Mansion. Behind every corner of Resident Evil lies greedy zombies and dangerous mutations, often hidden or blocked by inventive environmental puzzles. Fixed camera angles intensify the feeling of claustrophobia, and your limited inventory will make you feel vulnerable.

If that wasn’t scary enough, you can always get the remake version released on Steam in 2015. However, this is a remake of Resident Evil that adds new environments, scenarios, and surprises to make sure it’s as scary as you remember it every moment.

Resident Evil 2 Remake

While the first Resident Evil game offered most of its horror features in a haunted house setting, Resident Evil 2’s stunning remake makes zombies the stars of the series. These are the scariest zombies ever produced in the series, and each one has a story about how they got infected with the twisted, bloody face. As with the best zombie games, the horror of Resident Evil 2 moves unpredictably.

Shooting them in the head will only stun them for a second or two and let you pass, but you’ll have to hit them a few more times until the skull explodes to ensure they won’t get up again. Alternatively, you can head for the limbs: a few pistol shots are all it takes to snap off the ankle, making them much less mobile and allowing you to carefully pass around them. Once you take a shot, there are standard zombies that remain a constant threat throughout Resident Evil 2 Remake’s scenario, and taking them down is always equally difficult and satisfying.

Call of Duty Black Ops – Cold War

Honestly, you can pick any of Treyarch’s Call of Duty games on this list because zombie mods are the best. Black Ops 4 had a very good zombie mode, but the reason we chose Black Ops Cold War is because it’s a nice entry point for those who haven’t played the zombie mode. It also has a new storyline, great tutorials, lots of easter eggs, and the original map is way easier for classic survival mods.

The cooperative zombie mode has been a Call of Duty fan favorite since its debut in Call of Duty: World at War. The swarm-style mode gives players missions to eliminate waves of zombies while repairing structures, gaining access to new areas, and unlocking new weapons and gear. It is an unexpected treasure as a co-op game. Although we consider all zombie mods in CoD to have their own unique features, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War stands out the most among the best Call of Duty games.

World War Z

Left 4 Dead’s spiritual successor, Back 4 Blood, is still a few months away, a new game that strictly follows the cooperative zombie-killing formula that the popularized L4D series should have sufficed. World War Z doesn’t offer anything revolutionary for this formula on its own, but it’s still fun to play on quests with friends, upgrade your kit over time, and watch rotting corpses explode under heavy machine gun fire. It’s also a real hit, selling over 2 million copies on the Epic Games Store since its launch.

State of Decay 2

State-of-Decay-2

If you’re looking for a story, you can find it best in the original State of Decay, but the sequel does an admirable job detailing the systems of the first game to provide a more satisfying open-world survival experience.

Like an RPG, State of Decay 2 is an online zombie game that surprises with permadeath. The survivors will choose a hero from your community and take them into the wilderness to find the necessary food, fuel or medicine to keep the rest alive. You can take control of another character from your base with their own histories, personalities, and combat abilities when they fall into bed at home or fall under the blows of the undead. When you allow another stranger to enter your growing base, you are allowing another playable character; middle and end is another new story to write.

Killing Floor 2

Killing Floor-2

Killing Floor 2, one of the best co-op games and zombie games on PC, you will smash zombie brains like crazy. Zombies of all shapes and sizes come to you solid and fast, making Killing Floor 2 the perfect co-op game. But as you devote more time to one spot, Killing Floor 2 turns into a zombie game with a gripping tactical element: are you wasting your blood-soaked resources now or are you saving them for a more challenging future conflict? The gameplay of Killing Floor 2, most importantly, it feels great to play as a great bloody shooter with friends.

Dead Island

Dead Island

It’s not a particularly pretty or flashy game, but Dead Island remains one of the best zombie games on PC. It’s tempting to compare Techland’s first zombie game with Left 4 Dead 2, with its first-person and four-player co-op; but what Dead Island borrows from Fallout 3 makes it compelling. The “Island” in question is a small island off the coast of Papua New Guinea, and its undead inhabitants are hungry to ruin your hard-won vacation. Any narrative interest begins and ends here, but after a grueling first hour, this tiny Ocean island opens up to reveal a world of impressive scale.

Still, a big world is pointless if crippling zombies isn’t fun. Fortunately, the combat and RPG-lite progression is interesting enough to keep you going: you’ll start with melee-based weapons, but then you’ll encounter throwable knives and machetes that satisfy one-shot kills. Although Dead Island and its semi-sequel Riptide have been remastered in Dead Island: Definitive Edition, some bugs still remain in the original version. And don’t hold your breath waiting for the sequel: Dead Island 2’s development has been problematic to say the least. It is still unknown when it will be released. Already Dying Light continues the series.

Dying Light

Dying-Light

Techland built on the success of Dead Island on the run, with another open-world zombie game equipped with customizable melee weapons and four-player co-op. First, they look like they’ve been cut from the same fabric and offer oriented hard work for the first hour. Then Dying Light takes this cloth, fills it in a bottle, sets it on fire, and tosses it into a pack of undead from a great height.

Like survivors in the post-pandemic world, Dying Light is a scavenger. Map icons and deflections are taken from the Ubisoft formula. The map was stolen from Istanbul. The track was stolen from Mirror’s Edge. But climbing informs every other aspect of the game, making it an exploratory, unfolding adventure. For the best results, ignore the more repetitive missions and climb the rooftops of Harran, built with vertical curves in mind.

Techland has revealed one of the best zombie games with Dying Light, so we’re super excited for the sequel. With a story penned by the legendary Chris Avellone, the narrative complexity that Dying Light 2’s faction system promises is exciting. The game was recently released and received very positive feedback.

Left 4 Dead 2

Left-4-Dead-2

It’s been eight years, but Left 4 Dead 2 has always looked as affordable as Valve shooters have. This means that, unlike many zombie games, it ages well despite the lack of any fantasy, physically-based rendering, or global lighting. It’s definitely a better zombie game, even when compared to its different themed siblings Vermintide and the two Payday games. Presumably, Left 4 Dead lost the perfect balance of its small arsenal by expanding it for the sequel. He filled the world with improvised melee weapons and special ammo types. But still Left 4 Dead 2 and the original are still the best co-op games on the market.

While some post-apocalyptic scenarios assume a familiar version of zombie-dom we’ve long become desensitized to, Left 4 Dead 2 offers a world where normalcy is so new. Although cities have emptied in the wake of waves of evacuation, humanity feels close enough to touch thanks to messages scribbled on the walls of safe houses. There’s an unmatched warmth here, too: the cultural influence of New Orleans and its surroundings seeps from the swamps into the streets and into the soundtrack.

the Walking Dead

The Walking Dead

Telltale’s The Walking Dead series. A timer-inspired speech system inspired by social anxiety. A feeling of interpersonal warmth framed by a general gloom, like a campfire on a cold night. It has a tendency to neutralize you with humor and take a half-hour break before ruthlessly shifting it to characters you care about in a way that only the best adventure games on PC can.

This is something we’d like to see from more zombie games: The Walking Dead isn’t really about walkers. They just form the backdrop for a series of stories about human nature. Key characters here are capable of both great good and unforgivable evil to protect themselves. The only reassurance is found at the end of each episode when you see what percentage of other players have made the same terrible compromises as you. You’ll have a lot of painful decisions to make when the finale ends, but The Walking Dead: The Final season is the best series ever.

Zombie Army 4: Dead War

zombie-army-4

In the original Zombie Army trilogy, part of the Sniper Elite games, we fought Hitler’s undead army and drove him to hell; but now it has brought an even greater zombie threat. As we explained in our Zombie Army 4 review, there are a few similarities to be drawn with Left 4 Dead; You travel, shoot and cut with up to three friends in between short delays in zombie hordes, safe houses.

The gratuitous fun of innocent brutality and the testicles-breaking X-Ray kill camera make it as satisfying as smashing your enemies with a hammer. After all, these are not just undead abominations, they are also Nazis; Even the kindest pacifist can enjoy blowing them up like a melon barrel. You can even modify and upgrade your weapons to ignite flames or scatter lightning, and create a special skill structure to mow down zombies with brutal efficiency.
